The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Developer to Rescue Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Change Comes After Poor Reception

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed employees about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer stated that the team is now refining the project with a revised vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement mirrors a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire content from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative developers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game playtest was informative. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to consideration and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s poised to achieve its promise to our fans.

The belief in this project strengthens every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After a period of talks, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.

His management and experience in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having devoted the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in greeting him soon. We are all looking forward to continue observing the evolution of the game in the time to ahead.

David
